Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Commercial Real Estate, Manufacturing, Controlled Environment Agriculture, Personal Protective Equipment, Health & Safety Regulators, Medical Facilities, Transportation, any application for interior spaces where improved indoor air quality is desired.

  • Yes, our technology targets the DNA or RNA and protein sheath of any aerosolized particle containing pathogens. It has been tested against MS2 as well as the very difficult to inactivate Boytris Cinerea (Gray mold) spores. The spores have a protective melanin UV-C absorbing coating and DNA repair mechanisms. Testing has demonstrated our technology effectively penetrates the coating and overwhelms repair mechanisms providing sanitized air at a rate of 125 cfm.

  • No, they are fundamentally different. Firstly, Fluence cannot be derived from radiometric quantities, whereas Photon Density is the time derivative of electromagnetic energy density, a key radiometric quantity. Secondly, Fluence is measured in watts per square centimeter (W/cm²), which is suitable for surface-based experiments like those on petri dishes. However, using surface measurements to evaluate devices meant for aerosolized particles is misleading. During the pandemic, some air sanitizer companies incorrectly used surface-based measurements and test results to promote ineffective products. To truly improve air quality, we need volume-based measurement techniques and experiments that accurately reflect how devices perform in real-world conditions.

  • Filters should be a component of the overall mitigation strategy, especially when questionable quality outside air is introduced into the interior environment. One issue is that collecting active viral particles create concentrations that require removal. Filter performance degrades as the filters become plugged. Filtered larger pathogen laden conglomerates dry out releasing the smaller viral ones which can pass through. We need to be very careful with product claims that have both filtering and inactivation technologies. During the pandemic many products were marketed that had ineffective sanitization technology relying solely on filtering to pass certifications. Manufacturers should be required to test the collection and sanitizing components independently to prevent misleading consumers.
